Royal Burgundy Barberry

Berberis thunbergii 'Gentry'

Royal Burgundy Barberry keeps its impact close to the ground, forming a dense mound of small leaves in deep burgundy and purple tones. The dark foliage creates an easy contrast against green, gold, and lighter-colored plants without relying on flowers for attention. Its branching stays compact and closely packed, giving the shrub a naturally full appearance as it matures. Reaching about 2 to 3 feet tall and spreading 3 to 4 feet wide, it works especially well for low borders, foundation plantings, and colorful landscape accents.

  • Deciduous shrub
  • Deep burgundy-purple foliage
  • Compact, rounded growth habit
  • Slow to moderate growth rate
  • Excellent for borders, foundation plantings, and low accents

Royal Burgundy Barberry performs best in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA zones 4 through 8, it brings lasting foliage contrast and a compact, well-defined shape to Texas landscapes.
