Apricot Drift Rose

Rosa ‘Meimirrote’

Apricot Drift Rose is a charming, low-growing rose that adds a warm splash of color to any landscape. Its soft, pale orange flowers bloom generously from spring until fall, creating a season-long display against glossy, deep green foliage. Reaching only about 1 foot tall and spreading to 2 feet wide at maturity, it's ideal for edging, mass plantings, or containers, offering versatility without overwhelming your landscape.

  • A deciduous shrub
  • Spreading, low growth habit
  • Moderate growth rate
  • Pale orange flowers blooming spring through fall
  • Great for borders, containers, and accents

Hardy in zones 4-11, Apricot Drift Rose fits beautifully into your North Texas landscape. Plant in full sun, ensuring at least 4-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Prospers in well-drained soil. Fertilize in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Apricot Drift Rose is a compact, low-growing shrub rose loved for its abundant apricot-colored blooms and disease-resistant nature. Here’s everything you need to know about how to help it thrive:

  • Watering: Water deeply and consistently during the first 1-2 years to establish a strong root system. Once established, Apricot Drift tolerates moderate drought but blooms best when the soil is kept evenly moist. Avoid waterlogged soil, which can lead to root issues.
  • Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to remove dead, damaged, or crossing stems and encourage new growth. Deadhead spent blooms during the growing season to promote continuous flowering. Avoid heavy pruning into old wood, as it may reduce bloom production.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release rose fertilizer in early spring and again in mid-summer to support flowering and healthy foliage. Organic compost or mulch enhances soil structure and long-term plant vigor. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage leaf growth over flowers.
  • Mulching: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base to conserve moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds. Keep mulch slightly away from the crown to prevent rot. Refresh annually for optimal results.
  • Winter Care: Apricot Drift Rose is hardy in USDA zones 5-9. In colder climates, provide light winter protection such as mulch or burlap for young plants. Mature plants typically withstand mild winters with minimal care.

Apricot Drift is relatively disease-resistant but may face minor issues under stress or poor conditions:

  • Black Spot or Powdery Mildew: Yellowing leaves or white powder may appear during humid conditions. Improve airflow, remove infected leaves, and avoid overhead watering to reduce disease pressure.
  • Aphids: Curling leaves or sticky residue indicate aphid activity. Rinse foliage with water or apply insecticidal soap to control populations.
  • Leaf Drop: Stress from drought, heat, or overwatering can cause minor leaf loss. Maintaining consistent soil moisture helps prevent recurrence.
  • Leggy Growth: Light pruning encourages fuller, more compact growth and increased blooms.

With proper care, it typically lives 10-15 years, maintaining its low, spreading habit and prolific bloom display.

It grows moderately, about 6-12 inches per year, and reaches its mature size of 12-18 inches tall and 2-3 feet wide within 2-3 years.
