Heartleaf Rosemallow
Hibiscus martianusHeartleaf Rosemallow pairs delicate foliage with flowers that are anything but subtle. Velvety, heart-shaped leaves create a soft gray-green backdrop, while brilliant red blooms open along the branching stems and stand out clearly against the muted foliage. Its form stays open and somewhat airy rather than developing into a dense mound, giving the individual flowers plenty of room to show. Reaching about 1 to 3 feet tall and wide at maturity, it adds vivid color and native character to borders, xeriscapes, and naturalized plantings.
- Flowering perennial
- Brilliant red blooms with heart-shaped foliage
- Open, branching growth habit
- Moderate growth rate
- Excellent for native beds, xeriscapes, and mixed borders
Heartleaf Rosemallow favors full sun and well-drained soil, handling heat and dry conditions particularly well once established. Hardy in USDA zones 8 through 11, it brings bright flowering interest and a distinctly Southwestern character to Texas landscapes.
