Cherry Laurel Everbrite

Prunus caroliniana 'Greevbrite'

Cherry Laurel Everbrite adds timeless elegance and year-round greenery to any landscape. With its dense, upright growth habit and richly glossy leaves, it creates a striking backdrop or screen while also serving beautifully as a focal point. Reaching up to 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide at maturity, this evergreen shrub is ideal for hedges, natural borders, or foundation plantings. Its refined appearance and dependable growth make it a favorite for classic and contemporary landscapes alike.

  • Evergreen shrub
  • Dense, upright growth habit
  • Rich, glossy green foliage
  • Great for hedges, screens, and accents
  • Naturally compact and uniform form

Hardy in zones 6–9, Cherry Laurel Everbrite thrives in the North Texas climate. It performs best in partial to full sun and well-drained soil, adding structure and lush color to your space with minimal effort.

Cherry Laurel Everbrite is a dependable evergreen shrub valued for its bright foliage and low-maintenance nature once established. Here’s everything it needs to perform at its best:

  • Watering: Water deeply and regularly during the first 1-2 years to help establish a strong, spreading root system. Once established, Everbrite tolerates short dry periods but looks healthiest with evenly moist, well-drained soil. During prolonged heat or drought, supplemental watering helps preserve foliage quality. Avoid consistently soggy soil.
  • Pruning: Pruning requirements are minimal. Prune in late winter or early spring to remove damaged, crossing, or overly long shoots and to maintain a clean, dense form. Light touch-up pruning can be done after spring growth if shaping is needed. Avoid heavy pruning late in the season, which may reduce winter resilience.
  • Fertilizing: Everbrite performs well in moderately fertile soil. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and vibrant foliage. Excess nitrogen can lead to overly rapid growth with reduced density.
  • Mulching: Apply a 2-3 inch mulch layer around the root zone to conserve moisture, regulate soil temperature, and protect shallow roots. Keep mulch slightly away from the stems to prevent moisture-related issues. Refresh annually.
  • Winter Care: Cherry Laurel Everbrite is reliably cold-hardy within its recommended growing range. In exposed or windy locations, young plants may benefit from wind protection during their first winter. Mature shrubs typically require no special winter care and rebound easily from minor cold stress.

Cherry Laurel Everbrite is generally trouble-free, though a few manageable issues may appear under stressful conditions:

  • Leaf Spot: Brown or black spots may develop during extended humidity or poor airflow. Improve spacing, increase airflow, and remove fallen leaves to reduce recurrence.
  • Powdery Mildew: A white, dusty coating can appear in stagnant, humid conditions. Improve air circulation and avoid overhead watering to minimize fungal pressure.
  • Scale Insects: Small bumps on stems or sticky residue indicate scale activity. Treat with horticultural oil during dormant or early growth periods for effective control.
  • Aphids: Curled new growth or sticky honeydew suggests aphid feeding. Rinse foliage with water or apply insecticidal soap as needed.
  • Root Stress: Poor drainage or compacted soil may cause yellowing or slow growth. Improve soil structure and adjust irrigation practices to support recovery.

With proper care, Cherry Laurel Everbrite can live 30-50 years. Its longevity makes it a reliable evergreen backbone plant in long-term landscapes.

It grows at a moderate rate, typically 12-18 inches per year. Most plants reach a mature, dense form within 5-7 years.

Everbrite typically reaches about 6-8 feet tall and wide, forming a compact, rounded to slightly upright evergreen shrub.

Cherry laurels are generally considered deer-resistant, though heavy browsing pressure may result in occasional sampling of new growth.

It can be grown in large containers for several years, especially in courtyards or patios. Long-term performance is best when planted in the ground.

Yes - its dense branching and evergreen foliage make it an excellent choice for low to mid-height hedges and screening applications.

It handles heat well and performs best in full sun to partial shade. In extremely hot climates, some afternoon shade helps maintain leaf color and reduce stress.

Boxwood, Yaupon Holly, Loropetalum, Azaleas, ornamental grasses, and perennials pair well and complement its bright foliage and structure.

Yes - it tolerates moderate pollution and performs well in residential and commercial settings when given adequate soil preparation and irrigation.

Its brighter, cleaner green foliage and naturally compact habit set it apart. Everbrite offers the classic toughness of cherry laurel with a fresher, more refined appearance, ideal for modern landscapes.
