Moonshadow Camellia brings refined beauty to the landscape with its soft white and pink blooms that appear in fall. The delicate flowers stand out against the shrub’s dense, dark green leaves, adding seasonal color and charm. • Upright, rounded growth habit
  • Moderate growth rate
  • White and pink flowers blooming in fall
  • Great for borders, mass plantings, or as a focal point

Moonshadow Camellia is hardy in zones 7-9 and fits beautifully into your North Texas landscape. It thrives in partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. With minimal care, it brings graceful color and year-round structure to your outdoor space.

Moonshadow Camellia is a striking evergreen shrub, celebrated for its large, pure white flowers with a delicate fragrance and easy-care nature. Here’s all it needs to be the most beautiful shrub in your garden:

  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist during the first growing season to establish strong roots. Once established, Moonshadow Camellia prefers evenly moist soil and benefits from deep watering during extended dry periods. Avoid waterlogged soil to prevent root rot. Deep, infrequent watering encourages healthy foliage and long-lasting blooms.
  • Pruning: Light pruning after flowering maintains a compact, tidy shape and encourages dense branching. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches as needed. Avoid heavy pruning, as Camellias bloom on old wood, and excessive cutting can reduce next season’s flowers.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release, acid-forming fertilizer suitable for Camellias in early spring and again after flowering if necessary. Over-fertilization may cause excessive leafy growth at the expense of blooms.
  • Mulching: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch around the base to retain soil moisture, regulate temperature, and suppress weeds. Keep mulch slightly away from the crown to prevent rot.
  • Winter Care: Moonshadow Camellia is hardy in USDA zones 7-9. In colder regions or during unusual freezes, provide light mulch around the base and consider frost protection for container plants. Avoid pruning in late fall or winter to protect next season’s flower buds.
  • Leaf Yellowing: Often caused by overwatering, poor drainage, or nutrient imbalance. Ensure well-drained, slightly acidic soil and amend if necessary.
  • Bud Drop: Sudden temperature changes, inconsistent watering, or stress can cause buds to drop. Maintain steady moisture and avoid late-season nitrogen fertilization.
  • Pests: Generally pest-resistant, though occasional scale, aphids, or spider mites may appear. Treat with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
  • Reduced Flowering: Excessive shade or improper pruning can reduce blooms. Plant in partial to filtered sun and prune lightly after flowering.

It grows moderately, typically reaching 3-5 feet tall and wide within 3-5 years. Its upright, dense habit suits borders, foundation plantings, or containers.

With proper care, it can thrive 20-30 years or more. Steady watering, pruning, and proper site selection help maintain vigor and flowering performance.

Yes. Its compact form and striking blooms make it ideal for large pots or decorative planters. Ensure excellent drainage and avoid water pooling at the crown.

Yes. Bees and other pollinators are drawn to its fragrant blooms, though its primary appeal is ornamental.

Moonshadow Camellia prefers consistent moisture and does not tolerate prolonged dry conditions. Mulching and occasional deep watering during dry periods support healthy growth and blooms.

It thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic soils. Heavy clay or alkaline soils may reduce flowering and increase root problems. Soil amendments improve performance.

Yes. Light pruning after flowering keeps the shrub tidy and encourages dense branching. Avoid late fall or winter pruning to protect flower buds for next season.

Absolutely. Its pure white blooms, evergreen foliage, and upright habit make it perfect for formal borders, foundation plantings, or accent clusters.

Provide steady moisture, mulch to retain hydration, prune lightly after flowering, and fertilize with an acid-forming Camellia fertilizer in early spring. Avoid heavy fertilization late in the season.

Its pure white, fragrant flowers, glossy evergreen foliage, and tidy, upright form create elegant, long-lasting ornamental appeal. It combines beauty, fragrance, and moderate maintenance for shaded to partially sunny landscapes.
