Dream Weaver Camellia

Camellia sasanqua ‘Dream Weaver’

Dream Weaver Camellia adds classic beauty to any landscape with its elegant, light pink flowers that bloom in fall. The soft blooms create a striking contrast against the shrub’s glossy, dark green leaves, bringing seasonal color and charm. Growing up to 8 feet in height and about 6 feet in width at maturity, it’s an excellent choice for borders, mass plantings, or as a graceful focal point.

  • An evergreen shrub
  • Upright, rounded growth habit
  • Moderate growth rate
  • Light pink flowers blooming in fall
  • Great for borders, mass plantings, or as a focal point

Dream Weaver Camellia is hardy in zones 7-9 and fits beautifully into your North Texas landscape. It thrives in partial shade and prefers well-drained, slightly acidic soil. With minimal care, it will add soft color and refined structure to your landscape each year.

Dream Weaver Camellia is an elegant evergreen shrub prized for its large, soft pink blooms with delicate ruffled edges. It’s also very easy-going, needing only a little care to grow beautifully. Here’s all you need to know:

  • Watering: Water consistently during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, Dream Weaver Camellia prefers evenly moist soil and benefits from deep watering during dry spells. Avoid waterlogged soil, which can cause root rot. Deep, infrequent watering encourages healthy growth and extended flowering.
  • Pruning: Light pruning after flowering helps maintain a compact, tidy shape and encourages dense branching. Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches as needed. Avoid heavy pruning, as Camellias bloom on old wood, and cutting too much can reduce next season’s flowers.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a slow-release, acid-forming fertilizer suitable for Camellias or azaleas in early spring and again after flowering if needed. Over-fertilization may lead to excessive leafy growth at the expense of blooms.
  • Mulching: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of organic mulch around the base to retain soil moisture, moderate temperature, and suppress weeds. Keep mulch slightly away from the crown to prevent rot.
  • Winter Care: Dream Weaver Camellia is hardy in USDA zones 7-9. In colder areas or during unusual freezes, provide light mulch around the base and consider frost protection for container plants. Avoid pruning in late fall or winter to preserve next season’s flower buds.
  • Leaf Yellowing: Often caused by overwatering, poor drainage, or nutrient imbalance. Ensure well-drained soil and apply an acid-forming fertilizer if necessary.
  • Bud Drop: Sudden temperature changes, stress, or inconsistent watering can cause buds to drop. Maintain steady moisture and avoid late-season nitrogen fertilization.
  • Pests: Generally resistant, though occasional scale, aphids, or spider mites may appear. Treat with horticultural oil or insecticidal soap if needed.
  • Reduced Flowering: Excessive shade or pruning at the wrong time can reduce blooms. Maintain light pruning after flowering and plant in partial to filtered sun.

It grows moderately, typically reaching 3-5 feet tall and wide within 3-5 years. Its upright, dense habit is ideal for borders, foundation plantings, or containers.

With proper care, it can thrive 20-30 years or more. Pruning, steady watering, and proper site selection help maintain health and flowering performance.

Yes. Its compact form and attractive blooms make it perfect for large pots or decorative planters. Ensure excellent drainage and avoid water pooling at the crown.

Yes. Bees and other pollinators are drawn to its blooms, though it is primarily valued for its ornamental beauty.

It prefers consistent moisture and does not tolerate prolonged drought. Mulching and occasional deep watering during dry periods promote healthy growth and flowering.

It thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic soils. Heavy clay or alkaline soils may inhibit flowering and increase the risk of root issues. Amending the soil with organic matter improves performance.

Yes. Light pruning after flowering keeps the shrub tidy and encourages dense branching. Avoid pruning in late fall or winter, which can remove flower buds for the next season.

Absolutely. Its striking pink blooms, evergreen foliage, and neat habit make it perfect for formal borders, foundation plantings, or accent clusters.

Provide steady moisture, mulch to retain hydration, prune lightly after flowering, and fertilize with an acid-forming Camellia fertilizer in early spring. Avoid heavy late-season fertilization.

Its soft pink, ruffled blooms, glossy evergreen foliage, and upright, tidy habit create long-lasting ornamental appeal. It combines beauty, fragrance, and moderate maintenance for shaded to partially sunny landscapes.
