Pink Double Knock Out Rose

Rosa ‘Radtkopink’

The Pink Double Knock Out Rose brings all the reliability of the original Knock Out series - plus twice the petals. Its lush, fully double blooms in vivid pink give the look of a classic rose without the need for constant upkeep. This fast-growing, flowering shrub puts on a spectacular show from early spring into fall, blooming in cycles that require no deadheading to keep going strong. With a compact, rounded shape reaching 3 feet in height and width, it's ideal for borders or in flower beds.

  • Flowering deciduous shrub
  • Moderate to fast growth rate
  • Rich pink double blooms spring through fall
  • Compact, mounding growth habit
  • Excellent for beds, borders, and mass plantings

Pink Double Knock Out Rose thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. It tolerates heat, humidity, and drought once established, making it a top choice for beds across Texas. Hardy in USDA zones 5 through 11, this variety offers nonstop color and classic beauty with very little effort.

Maintenance

With just a few simple care steps, Pink Double Knock Out Rose stays lush, colorful, and healthy for years. Here’s what it needs:

  • Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to help roots establish deeply. Once mature, it’s drought-tolerant and needs only occasional deep watering during long dry spells. Avoid overhead watering to prevent leaf disease.
  • Pruning: Prune in late winter or very early spring, cutting back to about one-third of its height. This promotes dense, bushy growth and a heavy flush of new blooms. Remove dead or damaged wood as needed, and lightly trim throughout the season to maintain a tidy shape.
  • Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring, then again in midsummer after the first major bloom flush. Avoid overfeeding, as too much nitrogen encourages leafy growth with fewer flowers.
  • Mulching: Apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the root zone to retain moisture, suppress weeds, and keep the root zone cool. Keep mulch an inch or two away from the stems to prevent rot. Refresh mulch each spring for best results.
  • Winter care: Pink Double Knock Out Rose is cold-hardy and recovers easily after frost. In colder climates, add a fresh mulch layer around the base in late fall for insulation. Prune away any winter damage in early spring as new growth appears.

Common Issues and How to Take Care of Them

This rose is exceptionally disease-resistant, but a few manageable issues may appear in challenging conditions:

  • Black Spot: Rare on Knock Outs, but can occur in persistently wet weather. Remove affected leaves and improve airflow. A preventive fungicide can help if conditions stay humid.
  • Powdery Mildew: Appears as a white coating on leaves in overcrowded or shady spots. Prune to increase air circulation and avoid overhead watering.
  • Aphids: Small green or black insects that feed on buds and tender stems. Wash off with a firm spray of water or apply insecticidal soap if infestations persist.
  • Japanese Beetles: Hand-pick beetles early in the morning or use traps placed away from the plant. Neem oil can also deter feeding.
  • Root Rot: Overly wet soil or poor drainage can cause root issues. Ensure proper drainage and avoid excessive watering.
  • Leaf Burn: Can occur after overhead watering in direct sunlight. Water at the base to keep leaves dry and healthy.

With proper care, it can live 15-20 years or longer. Regular pruning and annual feeding help maintain its vigor and continuous bloom cycle over the years.

It grows quickly, reaching its mature form in 2-3 seasons. Once established, it produces new growth and blooms continuously throughout the warm months.

It has a light, subtle rose scent - enough to add charm without overpowering nearby plants or patio spaces.

Yes! Its continuous, open blooms attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators, making it a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.

Yes, it’s moderately deer-resistant. Deer may nibble occasionally, but they typically avoid it thanks to its dense, thorny growth and resilient foliage.

Absolutely. It performs beautifully in large containers or patio planters. Just ensure good drainage and prune annually to keep it compact and full of blooms.

Yes, it’s hardy through cold winters and rebounds quickly each spring. A protective mulch layer around the base adds extra insulation in freezing regions.

No - that’s one of its best features. Pink Double Knock Out Roses are self-cleaning, meaning spent blooms naturally drop off, encouraging fresh waves of flowers without extra work.

Yes. Cut back one-third of the oldest stems to the ground in early spring. This promotes vigorous new shoots and helps restore fullness and flower production.

Its disease resistance, continuous flowering, and low-maintenance nature make it a favorite among gardeners who want classic rose beauty without the constant care traditional varieties require.
