Blanco Buttonbush
Cephalanthus occidentalis 'Blanco'Blanco Buttonbush is easy to recognize in bloom, when round white flower clusters appear across the shrub like small pincushions. Fine, projecting floral parts give each sphere a textured appearance and attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators throughout the flowering period. Its branching develops into a broad, leafy form that feels especially natural around water and in less formal plantings. Reaching about 6 to 10 feet tall and equally wide at maturity, it fills substantial space in rain beds, native borders, and areas near ponds or streams.
- Native flowering shrub
- White, globe-shaped flower clusters
- Broad, rounded growth habit
- Moderate to fast growth rate
- Excellent for rain beds and waterside areas
Blanco Buttonbush is particularly comfortable in full sun to partial shade and moist to wet soil, including locations where many shrubs struggle with excess moisture. Hardy in USDA zones 5-10, it combines distinctive flowers and dependable growth for wetter areas of Texas landscapes.
