Mexican Grass Tree
Dasylirion longissimumMexican Grass Tree, also known as Longleaf Sotol, combines a rugged trunk with a dense crown of long, slender leaves that sweep outward in every direction. The foliage creates a fountain-like silhouette, bringing movement and softness to an otherwise architectural form. As the plant matures, its trunk becomes more pronounced, lifting the leafy crown higher and giving it an increasingly sculptural appearance. Reaching about 6 to 10 feet tall and spreading 4 to 6 feet wide at maturity, it develops a distinctive presence that works especially well as a focal point in dry, open landscapes.
- Evergreen accent plant
- Long, narrow grass-like foliage
- Trunk-forming, fountain-shaped growth habit
- Slow growth rate
- Excellent for xeriscapes, rock gardens, and focal plantings
The Mexican Grass Tree thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Hardy in USDA zones 8 through 11, it brings year-round texture and a strong desert-inspired silhouette to Texas landscapes.
